Post a Picture

If you already have a web space where you can post images, then you can do all we describe below already. But if you don't have way to post digital images, or don't have a clue as to what a JPEG or a GIF is, then read on.

The "post an item" (Post an item) screen has a field where you are asked to supply the URL of an image:

Picture URL (optional):

You may enter a link to a picture posted anywhere on the world wide web. Make sure you enter the entire URL (eg:. http://asianart.com/logo.jpg)

If you already have a web space, or if your item is represented already on the web, and you supply the URL of the picture at this place in your posting, the posting will be illustrated, as are all of the listings showing the little red "PIC " sign. Obviously, this is a major boost in your effort to sell the piece.

But not everybody understands - or even wants to understand - the intricacies of making digital images, or even if they've mastered that, the intricacies of transferring their images to a web server.

So we at the Asian Arts classifieds have decided to make available to you two services:

1. I have a digital image but don't know how to post it.

If you have a GIF or JPEG image of your item, and it is not over 100K in size, send it to us as an attachment to an email. You may name the image as you like, the extension should be .gif or .jpg (the two digital formats that are web friendly). We will post it to you in a directory named after your email address, and when we have done so, we will email you the address (URL) which you can use in the "Picture URL" field in the post screen.

Note that you will have to wait until you have received this address (URL) before you post your item, as at this stage pictures must be posted at the same time as postings are made.

For an introductory period this service is entirely free. We will let you know on this page when we have to either discontinue or alter this service.

Your email should read: "please post this picture to:your e-mail address". The subject should be: postpic

Send postpic attachments to: asianart@webart.com

In our reply we will give you the URL of your picture(s) on the web.

2. I have a regular photo and don't know digital from shmigital, so what do I do now?

If you are willing to spend $15 per image, we will scan and post images from prints or slides. This requires that you fill out a little order form which you can then print and send to us with your photos. (Click here to go directly to the printable order form). When we have scanned and posted your image we will send you an e-mail with the address(es) (URL) of your images(s) so that you can post your item in the classifieds.

You can also, of course, download and save your images for use at any time.

Please note that we cannot improve a bad photograph, so try to send the very best photo you can. Good photos help the sale, bad photos hinder it.
